From Naples airport to the city centre

Which option fits where you're staying, what to do after you land, and what to check before you travel.

Capodichino airport is about 7 km from the city centre, so the transfer is short: the main question is which option puts you closest to your accommodation.

Public transport

Alibus

The bus that links the airport with the city. It makes two main stops in the city: Piazza Garibaldi (next to the Napoli Centrale railway station) and Piazza Municipio (by the port, Molo Beverello). It is the simplest choice if you're staying near the station, the port or Via Toledo.

Door to door

Taxi

The most comfortable option, especially with luggage, children or a late arrival. Official taxis wait at the stand outside the terminal. There are fixed fares for certain routes from the airport to the centre: ask for the fixed fare at the start and confirm it with the driver before you set off.

Combination

Alibus + metro

Take the Alibus to Piazza Garibaldi and continue on Line 1, which connects to stations such as Duomo, Università, Municipio, Toledo, Dante and Museo, and also has stations in Vomero. A good fit if your accommodation is close to a metro station.

Which option for which neighborhood

This is our own rough guide, not an official route. Distances on foot and in traffic vary, so check your exact address on a map.

  • Piazza Garibaldi: Alibus to Piazza Garibaldi: you arrive right next to Napoli Centrale station.
  • Centro Storico: Alibus to Piazza Garibaldi, then Line 1 to Duomo or Università, or a taxi.
  • Via Toledo & Plebiscito: Alibus to Piazza Municipio (the nearer stop), or Line 1 from Garibaldi to Toledo or Municipio.
  • Santa Lucia: Piazza Municipio is the nearer of the two Alibus stops. A taxi from the airport is the easiest with luggage.
  • Chiaia & Lungomare: Usually a taxi, or Alibus to Municipio and then a short taxi ride.
  • Vomero: A taxi is the most direct. By public transport: Alibus to Garibaldi, then Line 1 to Vanvitelli or another Vomero station.
  • Quartieri Spagnoli: Line 1 to Toledo is the closest metro station: Alibus to Garibaldi and then the metro, or a taxi.

After you land

  • The Alibus stop and the official taxi stand are both outside the terminal. Follow the signs for buses and taxis.
  • Decide before you leave the terminal which option suits your accommodation, using the list above.
  • If you take a taxi, use the official stand and ask for the fixed fare before setting off.
  • Keep your bags and phone close at the stop, on the bus and at the station.

Things to check before you travel

  • Heavy luggage, children or a late arrival: a taxi is the least tiring.
  • Night arrivals: the Alibus does not run around the clock. Check the last departure with the operator, and have a taxi as a fallback.
  • Journey times depend on traffic, which can be heavy in the city. Allow generous time, especially before a flight or a ferry.
  • Stops, frequency and fares change: check them with the official sources (the operator's website, the airport) before you travel.
